Biography:

My passion for swords and daggers, and later in life all types of medieval edged weapons, really started as a boy, when I was first introduced to Greek mythology. After devouring all I could find on the subject, I moved on to Norse mythology. Coupled with films like " ROBIN HOOD","SPARTACUS","IVANHOE", "EL CID", "THE VIKINGS","THE WARLORD" and "KNIGHTS of the ROUND TABLE" I developed a deep fascination with how swords where really used. All of this lead to a hunger for real facts and I began a life long study of history from the Cooper Age to the Renaissance, with my interest petering out after the sword stopped being used in combat. This went hand in hand with a study and use of edged weapons whenever possible. Along with a love of art and music, these studies are still going on as they have for the last 50 years. I was educated in the California school system, which was at the time, one of the best in the nation. I studied history and art history and discovered I had a talent for working with my hands, and took classes in woodwork, metal shop, drafting and so on. In my twenties I went to GA. State auditing classes in art history and sculpture under George Beasley and Gorge Mallet. In my thirties, as I was working as a furniture maker and making knives,(which I started at 18),and stained glass on the side, I met Hank Reinhardt at a dinner party. He remained a close friend until his untimely death. Hank and I hit it off right away; probable because we had both spent so much of our lives in much the same pattern. We started to do a lot of swordplay, and it was not long before he asked me to come to work for him at the fledgling company Museum Replicas Ltd. I ended up working there for almost 20 years, until the present owners decided to do movie, video game and comic book replicas as their main product line. Hank and I (and Eddie Floyd for a brief time) had always wanted to do true historic and real working swords and weapons using blades from Del Tin, and it was in those glory days that I met the world renowned sword historian Ewart Oakeshott, with whom I consulted with for over ten years. I also started to travel with and with out my dear wife Mary, and visited as many as possible of the museums with major arms and armor collections around the world. Guided by Ewart and Hank, and my own intense study, I became a designer and porto-type maker of fine edged weaponry. I am happy to be working with GEN.2/Legacy Arms, who are dedicated to making swords, and other edged weapons, like they where done in the past. The hilts are made totally by hand, with no cast parts. The blades are flame forged and tempered, just like they were in the past. These first designs, just like all to come, have very thick and wide tangs, always peened in place, and never with any threaded on pommels. Although I have done many weapons over the years, I would like to present just a few photos of some of the replicas of real swords and weapons I have done.
